Wow! I thank everyone who responded to my question. I'll pass all

this on to my friends who are getting married. I expected some

variety between parts of India, but this is more than I figured.

We thought of having the groom kneel and offer a rose to the

bride. Other gifts would work too.

But it's my friends' wedding, not mine, so they decide.

I am trying to understand this. Why should the groom kneel before the

bride and offer flower? Why not both stand look into each others eye,

and make the offering of flowers to each other in what ever ways :

sitting or standing.

We got this idea from the Greek myth of Aphrodite and Adonis. Sister

Britney (my friend who is getting married) is rather enamored of that

story.

As for him kneeling to him but not her kneeling to him, this is

the way we do things in my Auntie Usha's group. This is intentionally

asymmetrical because life is asymmetrical. He pays homage to her as

Temple of the Goddess. She responds with kindness and compassion.

Works out nice for both. But not the same because men and women are

not the same.
