Guest guest
Dear All, We often see various gods and saints meditating while sitting on Deer Skin, Tiger Skin or Wollen Mat etc. Can anyone share the knowledge regarding what benefits do all these kinds of Skins give to the meditators. Thanks and Best Regards, indeevar.
Guest guest
I am pretty sure that Swami Sivananda in his Mantra Japa book has a chapter about asanas of various substances and their effects. I prefer to use a kusha grass asana, because no animals need to be killed to make it. There also are shlokas in the Guru Gita which talk about cloth asanas of different colors, and their effects. As I recall, a white asana (and white clothing, and a crystal mala, and sitting facing North) is best for creating Peace. A red asana (and red clothing, coral mala, and facing East) is good for Control (of the Self, or of others). A yellow asana (and yellow clothes, a yellow mala, and facing West) is of moderate benefit for attracting material goods. And a blue or black asana (and blue/black clothes, blue/black mala, and facing South) is only resorted to by evil magicians who want to destroy their rivals. -- Len/ Kalipadma On Thu, 22 Apr 2004 11:03:54 -0000 "indeevarvb" <indeevarvb writes: > Dear All, > > We often see various gods and saints meditating while sitting on > Deer > Skin, Tiger Skin or Wollen Mat etc. > Can anyone share the knowledge regarding what benefits do all these > kinds of Skins give to the meditators. > > Thanks and Best Regards, > indeevar. > ______________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! The skin cuts the vibration of what happened before in the spot that you sit. It to me is not a question of ahimsa but a chance to honor and care for Gods creation. The soul of the sheep is greatful for the use put to the discarded skin. The point is to meditate Keep Up! Sat Jiwan Singh
Guest guest
This is so interesting. Most of my yoga students buy blue or black mats! They are just the most common colors sold, I think. My mat is orange, my favorite color. I also frequently practice on a green cotton and hemp rug- something about the PVC material of yoga mats bothers me, although I do appreciate the cushioning in halasana! In kundalini yoga they usually practice on a sheepskin. It sure looks cuddly to me, but I am in agreement with you about the principle. In my mind, it is a violation of ahimsa to purchase and use an animal skin. I am interested to know if there is a story behind Lord Shiva's tiger skin asana? pranams, Brianna --- kalipadma wrote: > > I am pretty sure that Swami Sivananda in his Mantra > Japa book has a > chapter about asanas of various substances and their > effects. The colors mentioned below in Len's post are for proper mantra japa and not for hatha yoga. > In kundalini yoga they usually practice on a > sheepskin. In Hinduism animal skins and animal products are considered ritually pure and hence they are recommended.
