Guest guest
When I send a letter to an Indian Temple and want the high-priest to get it, what do I have to write on the envelope? How do I address the high-priest, with "Dear Sir"? Conny Win a $20,000 Career Makeover at HotJobs
Guest guest
The common term of respectful address throughout India, is "Shree." It can also be transliterated as Shri, and Sri, and is applicable to both men and women (or deities!). It means "respected" or "honorable." I would receive letters from India addressed to "Shree Len Rosenberg" (my legal name). -- Len/ Kalipadma On Thu, 6 May 2004 14:25:50 -0700 (PDT) moon_81_surfer <moon_81_surfer writes: > When I send a letter to an Indian Temple and want the high-priest to > get it, what do I have to write on the envelope? > How do I address the high-priest, with "Dear Sir"? > > Conny > ______________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Guest guest
But you cannot address someone with "Sri Sir". At least it sound rather strange for me... Conny

Chiranjeevi is sometimes abbreviated as Chy., and Kumari as Kum. > Shri is not used with married women. For married women it is > Shrimati. This does not apply to deities though.
