Guest guest
Beloved, Could it possibly be that the statues and scriptures, with their ancient roots, are meant to be exactly what they look like, and meant to say exactly what they seem to say (with no between-the-lines required), and in fact there's nothing wrong with them, but instead there's something wrong with your current society?? I do not know how many would accept it. But I do. My teacher told me that even after one is done with puja or japa for the day,(say during brahmi muhurta, as it is definitely the best, or someother convenient time) one should *mentally* be reciting their mantra or stotra or namavali related to their ishtadevata, no matter where they are(whether in rest room or elsewhere), and what they are doing, as much as they can. You have said it right, Culture. In certain culture once a women is rape she is not worth a cent. You see when culture put a "price" tag on the value of women. And we are made to feel how "dirty" our body is. >From a women points of view, I see nothing wrong in showing the erotic aspect of DEVI. Infact I am proud to see it being protrayed for a change. Somebody send me an email and ask me to change the picture in our group page. My stand is this, if somebody finds it disturbing seeing the naked form of DEVI then dont come. If you are ashamed to see the naked body of DEVI, then you are ashamed of your own body. We are not! Perhaps its time to stop being A COMMON MAN. "Temple is a place where common man comes and how can he mediate before such idol. Sorry, this has been in my mind for a long time - and today I just dare to ask you all." He dont have to if he is unable. Nobody is forcing him. he can go to other temples where DEVI is fully dress. But in my opinion is that, temple is temple, the real temple is still our body. And the temple can be anywhere. One can sit in the open space, and the earth can becomes the floor, the sky the ceiling, the trees, plants, flowers etc as the pillars of the temple. Do you need an idol?. Or you can sit in an enclose area with nothing but just walls, and still you can meditate. To me its all in our mind. You can sit in the most beautiful temple with all the glory of DEVI protrayed and yet you will experiece nothing.
Guest guest
Rajii, do you think, over the centuries, that women have not had erotic fantasies about the male deities? Dark Krishna in his clinging yellow dhoti? Shiva dancing naked before the wives of the Rishis? Eroticism and sexuality are another path to devotion. -- Len/ Kalipadma On Mon, 10 May 2004 00:16:48 -0000 "N. Madasamy" <ashwini_puralasamy writes: > rajii31wrote: > > 1. Shiva dancing naked before the wives of the Rishis? What does the above act of Shiva has to do with sexuality being a path to devotion? Shiva appeared b4 them as a naked avadhuta and not as Shiva. The wives of these rishis and the rishis themselves in darukavana did not know that the naked avadhuta was Shiva. Shiva purana confirms this.
