Guest guest
"Loved by many": Hindu-Goddess of sexuality. Rati is also known under the name Ragalata, the "Vine of Love". An Indian goddess of love, passion, desire, and pleasure, she is more or less the Indian equivalent to Greek Aphrodite; and the female counterpart to Kama, the god of Love. Rati is also a member of the Apsaras, and her name occurs as well among the 28 Flesh-Eating Goddesses of the Bardo Thödol. In Hindu mythology, She is a milkmaid, the beloved of Krisha. She is an incarnation of Lakshmi, he an incarnation of Vishnu. It is this goddess whose "sexual secrets" have been described in the Ratirahyasa, a medieval text that has become better known as the Koka Shastra. In this work, the name Rati appears also in terms used for sexual techniques and positions. One example of this is ratipasa, the "noose of Rati", a position in which the woman locks her legs behind her partner's back. On the Indonesian island of Bali, Rati is often depicted as a dark, demonic figure with huge and pointed breasts, a fact that is interpreted by some writers as a sign of "aggressiveness". http://inanna.virtualave.net/indian.html Friends. Guest guest
<Rati> literally means "sexuality" in Sanskrit. Sometimes the term implies the goddess, sometimes not. If Rati is a form of Radha, and Radha is an avatar of Lakshmi, then Kama-Deva (the God of Desire) is married to his own mother! Lakshmi is Kama's mother by Vishnu. Rati is Kama's bride. Even if there is a parallel relationship made (and some stories do) between Kama, who is a form of Krishna, and Krishna is an avatar of Vishnu... the Puranas tend to frown on such an implied incestuous relationship. -- Len/ Kalipadma On Sat, 5 Jun 2004 16:40:12 -0700 (PDT) alexandra_108 <alexandra_108 writes: > "Loved by many": Hindu-Goddess of sexuality. > Rati is also known under the name Ragalata, the "Vine of Love". > > An Indian goddess of love, passion, desire, and pleasure, she is > more or less the Indian equivalent to Greek Aphrodite; and the > female counterpart to Kama, the god of Love. Guest guest
Dear Len: I agree with you entirely. This is the result of confused dredging for info. And this will give rise to "authoritativeresearch material" and books that are full of drivel that will confuse. This is what gives the west its bad name and that will make real knowlegable people to keep back info that will be misinterpreted and misused. Let us not answer any of these posts. For one I never even replied because from Day 1 I had a nasty feeling of the intent and purpose of this. kalipadma wrote: literally means "sexuality" in Sanskrit. Kamadeva is considered Vishnu's son. When Vishnu incarnated as Krishna, Kamadeva took birth as Krishna's son. The name of Kama as Krishna's son is Pradyumna. Pradyumna married Mayavati, who is an avatara of Rati-Devi. Krishna is equated to Kama only in principal. That is so because He is endearing to all women like Kamadeva and is desirable He is called Kama. Parama-Shiva is also called Kama because He is sought after and desired(meaning: They want to realise or have vison of Shiva) by Yogis and Rishis. Guest guest
But there is a problem. Knowledge that is not knowledge will mislead really serious seekers.
