(Lesbians are women who want to be > sexual with other women, not with fathers.) My friend Brian, married to a woman for many years, has been undergoing preparation for gender reassignment surgery. With hormone injections, depilatories, and psychological counselling, over the last few years he has been establishing his new identity as "Maureen." She/He intends to remain married to her/his wife, so I guess she/he might be seen as "a father caught in the act of lesbianism." Brian/Maureen is sharp, witty, talented, kind, and charismatic. (He/She danced the role of Ardhanarishvara in a public ritual I coordinated.) Human sexuality is far more complicated than most people assume. -- Len/ Kalipadma On Tue, 08 Jun 2004 15:35:41 -0000 "Mary Ann" <maryann writes: > First, I want to say that I do not support anyone putting down > anyone else's spirituality. Guest guest
Excellent point, Len. I have often thought that transgender people, like the rest of us, are caught in beliefs about male and female that make them want to change their outer bodies. And we all try to change our bodies due to beliefs - we try to lose weight and be attractive, or work out, or wear make-up, etc. But I do not know what would make someone want to take hormones and create a different body that way. I am glad transgender people are becoming more visible and vocal. Otherwise, misconceptions and prejudice will continue to abound with no chance of greater understanding. , kalipadma@j... wrote: > She/He intends to > remain married to her/his wife, so I guess she/he might be seen as "a > father caught in the act of lesbianism." > > Brian/Maureen is sharp, witty, talented, kind, and charismatic.
