I heard that there were pamphlets saying how Vivekananda actually preached that only Christianity is the way. They are like demons which feed on dead bodies. That is not an exaggeration. They approach many Indian families exactly when somebody in the family is dead and convince them that converting to christianity will make them happy etc etc.. I personally know of incidents where family members of deceased were approached by these evangelists for this purpose.
Guest guest
Is it possible to ask to exercise a bit of intelligent discretion about such ads? I think it's on a par with deities on toilet items as far as it causes the Indian - and possibly other non-Christian members of Shakti Sadhana - to feel disrespected. Because of that, it is worth saying something about to . Maybe there's some online method for addressing this issue. Also, I have seen a office near where I live. If it is necesssary to communicate with , I'd be happy to visit them to share group members' experiences of these ads and see whether they are able or willing to do anything differently, like screen the ad content and reject propaganda. What do you think? Guest guest
Beloved Mary Ann, A piece of pratical advice on this matter: To , a single person visiting them in person is more influencial than a thousand emails. If you send an email to , only a bot gets it, a human being won't see it for weeks if at all, and when they do it will be someone so low on the ladder of power in the company that they will be able to do nothing. The mail will probably just be ignored, like thousands of mails gets each day. On the other hand, if you go in person to a head office, you can ask to talk to someone who is of high enough position that your concerns could actually be paid attention to. It would have to be some kind of district manager or something along those lines. Pointing out that the media might want to hear about a private company allowing evangelists to prosletyze using their network is something that might get them to listen. Guest guest
I will be happy to go to the office and speak to someone. But I do not have knowledge of the offending ads. Can anyone who knows about them e-mail them to me, or their links, or whatever I can use to identify them so that I can present them to ? I will present them along with the messages on this topic, or if you want to compose something specific for me to present, please do. , Swami Anand Nisarg <swamiji_nisarg> wrote: > > Beloved Mary Ann, > > A piece of pratical advice on this matter: To , a > single person visiting them in person is more > influencial than a thousand emails. > If you send an email to , only a bot gets it, a > human being won't see it for weeks if at all, and when > they do it will be someone so low on the ladder of > power in the company that they will be able to do > nothing. Guest guest
I thought the problem was that on Hindu-related sites, like Shakti Sadhana, links to Christian sites, or ads for Christianity, were appearing. But everystudent.com is its own thing. Are you saying that it appears to be open-mindedly exploring God, but it's actually selling Christianity? Is it selling Christianity, or is it showing the similarities between Jesus' teachings and Eastern religious teachings? I recall being blasted on Shakti Sadhana for my own interest in such similarities. My interest in those does not come wanting anyone to convert, but rather, from joy in the awareness of such similarities. I do not have the time to research this in depth myself, but I do have the time to hand-deliver someone's well-thought out expression of how the everystudent.com site is not what it purports to be, and how it is offensive to Hindus. It would be ideal if you could provide me with direct examples from the site that you find offensive, and your comments as to why. Guest guest
Let me explain and then you can rest easy. This is what appears to all below this Shakti Sadhana Group, you also see it. Sponsored Links A Story of Hindu Beliefs: A personal story of a Hindu guru and what he discovered about Jesus. everystudent.com If it was something about Jesus it would be beautiful. If it was comparative religion it would be beautiful. Read for yourself and let Devi reside in your heart as Vichara. , "Mary Ann" <maryann@m...> wrote: > I thought the problem was that on Hindu-related sites, like Shakti > Sadhana, links to Christian sites, or ads for Christianity, were > appearing. Guest guest
Sorry, I may just be dense, but I do not see that statement, either on ads around the message board, or around the homepage, when I come to Shakti Sadhana. Also, when I went to the everystudent.com site, I did not see that story. There are other stories linked to, but not that one. If you can, e-mail me individually the text of that story on the everystudent site, and tell me where the " Sponsored Links" are 'cause I'm just not seeing them. , "Ashoka " <ashoka_h@h...> wrote: > Let me explain and then you can rest easy. > > This is what appears to all below this Shakti Sadhana Group, you also > see it. > > Sponsored Links > A Story of Hindu Beliefs: A personal story of a Hindu guru and what > he discovered about Jesus. > everystudent.com > > If it was something about Jesus it would be beautiful. Guest guest
Religion is (or can be) a framework for communications with God, a framework for social interactions and an "establishment". We can observe all the three aspects, some usually more pronounced than other. :-) Personal insecurities make one want others to validate his choice by accepting the same choice. [in support of converts, it is much easier for them if the environment conforms to their new behavior patterns (e.g. food selection, etc).] Regards, Uri-David MaryJWoodworth [MaryJWoodworth] Wednesday, June 09, 2004 14:24 Re: Re: evangelism Nothing is worse than a person trying to force their religion on to another person religion is an individual private thing be between them and their God/dess(s) my son in currently studying to become a Jew and he is trying to force me to become a Jew...human nature is sometimes hard to deal with I am sure I am not the first person to notice that people use religion to control others blessed be <http://rd./SIG=129aqg24m/M=298184.5022502.6152625.3001176/D=groups /S=1705075991:HM/EXP=1086897207/A=2164331/R=0/SIG=11eaelai9/*http://www.netf lix.com/Default?mqso=60183351> click here <http://us.adserver./l?M=298184.5022502.6152625.3001176/D=groups/S= :HM/A=2164331/rand=328678590> _____ * / * <?subject=Un> * Terms of Service <> . I've seen that particular link, although I've never clicked on it and so never went to "everystudent.com" or whatever the site is. That link is not there (for me) this afternoon--there are some Carl Sagan-related links in the box now.

Guest guest
You are not dense. They took it out. Does not matter - if you get it read it or else just forget about it. , "Mary Ann" <maryann@m...> wrote: > Sorry, I may just be dense, but I do not see that statement, either > on ads around the message board, or around the homepage, when I come > to Shakti Sadhana. Guest guest
I did a little experimenting. You can force a refresh of the "sponsored links" box by holding down your shift key and clicking the "refresh" icon in your browser. This afternoon the links cycled between the Jesus/Hindu/everystudent link, the Carl Sagan collection, and an ad for a Hinduism-based self- realization course. I am going to guess that the link selection is a completely automated process, and that links are selected based on keywords on our home page. We have a Carl Sagan quote on the home page..... In any case, the Jesus/Hinduism evangelization web page/link is (in my opinion) not appropriate here. I filled out an "abuse form" for customer care; interestingly, one of their categories is "advertising feedback." Who knows; maybe a human will read my complaint and direct the evangelizers elsewhere. , "Ashoka " <ashoka_h@h...> wrote: > I dont see it now too. Guest guest
That's great! I put together a package this evening to drop off at the corporate office, including this letter: Inc. 2800 Olympic Boulevard Santa Monica, CA 90404 RE: Internet Abuse, Dear Representative: I am a co-moderator of a Group called Shakti Sadhana, which is dedicated to the exploration of the divine as female/feminine energy according to an ancient Hindu belief system. The Shakti Sadhana group is over 1,100 members strong, comprised of people from all over the world, many Hindu, and other non-Christians, as well as Christians who are interested in what the group offers. We share scholarly information, scriptural information, news, anecdotes, and cross-cultural friendship, quite successfully – it's the internet at its finest, thanks to Something has been brought to my attention recently, however, that I, along with other group moderators and members, feel you need to be made aware of. There are links listed as " sponsored ads" appearing on our group home page and message board that are actually advertisements for Christianity that make their point in ways that are disrespectful to Hinduism. I have enclosed a specific ad entitled "My Experience as a Hindu Guru" to show how your company is being misused by internet evangelists to proselytize. This ad appeared on the Shakti Sadhana message board today, 6/9/04. This same ad has appeared previously under other titles, including "A Story of Hindu Beliefs: A personal story of a Hindu guru and what he discovered about Jesus." It is upsetting to group members to see their traditions maligned by sponsored ads such as the enclosed. I have also included herewith some of our recent postings on this topic to show you how non-Christians are taking this ad. As you will see by reading the messages, the group members feel attacked, and would like to exercise discretion when sponsoring links. Ideally, would not sponsor ads that are disrespectful of other cultures' traditions. I look forward to your response on this topic. You can reach me during office hours at ***, or leave a message at the number on my letterhead. Sincerely, *************** BTW the messages are by kochu, Satish, Ashoka, and Swami Nisarg. If any of you don't want your messages sent to , let me know. Guest guest
Yes I think so. Now that this is gone and the Bikini war is finished. Lets get on. Lets deal with Shakti sadhana again.
