Matangi being a Mahavidya, I am not sure if it is correct to descibe

her as "a form of Durga" (because Durga is no Mahavidya).

Matangi is more related with Shakta Tantra than with Vedic

traditions.

The only connection between the Vedic path and Matangi would be that

Matangi has a connection with Sarasvati, the goddess of learning and

the Vedic arts.

Yes except that Durga is a mahavidya by way of her being an aspect of Kali.
