Yes, she's a Tibetan Dakini, an Enlightened Boddishatva that can be used as a focus by followers of Vajrayana Buddhism. Vajrayogini is nearly identical to Chinnamasta, one of the 10 Mahavidya's of the Shakti Sadhana tradition. Actually there is a lot of historic cross cultural exchanges between the Tantric Vajrayana Buddhism of Tibet and Nepal and the the Bengali Tantric Shakti practices. Here's a neat page on Vajrayogini: http://www.yoniversum.nl/dakini/vajrayogini.html My two cents about the Buddhism/Hinduism thing: "Truth Is One, The Rsi's Call It By Many Names." I really don't understand the negativity and the hostility directed towards another one of the great native faiths of Bharat. We have a lot to learn from our Buddhist cousins, and they have a lot to learn from us. No one path has discovered "THE TRUTH" - humanity is in the process of discovery! May we all know the Bliss of the Devi's Pure Consciousness! -Santo Om Shantih Shantih Shantih.
Guest guest
There are also Buddhist worshippers of Chinnamasta. Buddhist Dakini iconography all have knives which cut through conceptualization, and often a skull cup to portray the nectar of realization, otherwise known as bodhicitta. - Santo Wednesday, June 16, 2004 11:34 AM Vajrayogini and Chinnamasta.
