Hi Kalipadma:

Thanks for a very strong and well thought-out post on the meaning of

the Sword in Hindu and Buddhist iconography. You conclude, that -- in

these traditions -- "the Khadga is in no way patriarchal -- it is an

integral symbol of the Mother in Hinduism, and of a feminine trait in

Buddhism." Points beautifully argued, and well taken. The same

applies to your accurate comments on coitus imagery.

I only wish you had refrained from undermining your post by ending it

with a gratuitous pot shot at Mary Ann. I think Mary Ann has been

doing a great job at remaining respectful toward other members while

arguing a difficult position. It takes a certain amount of courage to

defend an unusual spin on traditional teachings. We may or may not

agree with her, but we have to maintain civility or the group won't

be able to function for long.

Thanks again for a (mostly!) excellent post ...

I apologize if you and Mary Ann took my comment as a "pot shot." I know

that I am as caught up in the snares of the Ego as everyone else.
