"This is your new teller," they said, "Her name is Neela." I brightened and said, "Oh, pretty! That means 'blue' in Sanskrit, doesn't it?" Neela shugged. "Durn if I know. My family is four generations in Guyana!" My own family name is Rosenberg. Jews were forced to take family names in Medieval Europe. (Before that, we were just "Blank, son of Somebody.") Rosenberg means "from the rosy mountain." I had a friend whose last name was Rosenthal, which means "from the rosy valley." We would greet each other: Hello up there, Mr. Rosenberg! Hello down there, Mr. Rosenthal! If I ever take a Hindu family name, I've concidered taking "Arunachala," which I believe also means "from the rosy mountain." -- Len/ Kalipadma ______________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
