Like every substance tamasic and sattvic food have their own properties and they create the tamasic and sattvic effects in the body accordingly. This is discussed in a number of works(like patanjali yoga sutras which gives reasons as to why of it etc) and experienced by a lot a sadhakas. The poison example is there to show that substances will have their own effects on the human body and not to discuss wat kinda poisons do what to the body. Read childofdevi's posts *again* and patanjali yoga sutras(where it discusses yama niyama i think) > Are you a vamachara, satish? If you are not and have said once that > you have no interest in Vamachara practices, then I believe you are > in no position to even talk about it. What exactly is your problem? I am not a vamachari. What I meant is that I have no interest in practicing vamachara(that doesnt mean i have no interest in learning their procedures and acharas and other paddhatis). You are no one to tell me what to speak about and what not to speak about. I am not a Vaishnava either but know to some extent their worship procedures etc. likewise to an extent about vamachara practices. *Go read* the original texts in sanskrit which talk about vamachara. If you know of any vamacharis who said they are exempt from smriti rules they are just misinformed. Prolly they find it inconvenient to follow them and start teaching to others(because they cant follow) that they dont need to adhere(usually happens).Or simply they are half learned and just dont know. It is definitely not possible to follow everything in the smriti but some of these ppl lack even the humility to acknowledge that(they cant follow) if not follow them. And probably also have their some personal habits which are against smriti rules which is when they start preaching(to keep themselves happy) that they dont need to adhere to justify their own habits as part of achara.
