Guest guest
Sri Periyachi is one of the most popular deity in the South East Asia Region. She is popular because SHE is basically a South Indian Deity and most of the Indians especially the early settlers are from South India. The same as with Sri Mariamman. The Oldest Devi Temple in Singapore is Sri Mariamman in South Bridge Road. And its almost a must to have Sri Periachi Amman in all Devi temple. I don't remember visiting Devi temple without Sri Periachi Amman. Much is hidden about her because she is strictly a woman's goddess. Some considered her as a form of Kali. She is believed to be very accessible and many run to her as if to a favorite grandmother. Her pujas are open to all but her rites are not open to men but eventually more men are seen participating in the Periyachi Pooja [ as seen in the pictures ]. This pooja is one of the highlights in the ubayam calendar of the Temple in the month of Adi. It was celebrated will full splendor and mass devotee's participation. Karagam, Paalai and Agni Kaparai were carried in honour of Sri Periyachi Amman on this day. The pictures to the event [ which was held on Friday, 6th August 2004,] is now in our homepage.
