Guest guest
Thanks for this. It heartens me tremendously when people see compassionate action on issues like this as part of spiritual practice, and as what pleases Maa. I just saw a report this week talking about how many of the prostitutes used by soldiers internationally had been trafficked into slavery, in Bosnia, Philippines, and elsewhere. In a recent post someone opined that the soldiers in Iraq needed access to prostitutes in order to relieve their stress. Aside from the unimaginable stress Iraqi women are living under, unarmed and unprotected, they are human beings, not a means of releasing tension for the soldiers. And we know that that release is often violent and abusive in situations where the women are despised, racially as well as sexually, and there are no consequences for that abuse. Even without formal slavery, there's every reason to believe that Iraqi women going with US soldiers are not acting out of personal preference or motives of sexual liberation, but because the economy is in ruins, thanks to years of bombing, and survival in their country, most of all for poor women, is extremely difficult. Guest guest
Dear Max: Thank you for taking note. The Iraq connection you mention is yet another horrific subplot in that shameful mess of a situation. *** It heartens me tremendously when people see compassionate action on issues like this as part of spiritual practice, and as what pleases Maa. *** Me too. In fact, think failure to do so indicates that one is kind of missing the whole point. The truest Shaktas upasaks whom I've had the honor to meet are relentlessly other-directed, rather than self- directed. Nice to see sometimes. By the way, I don't think you've been formally welcomed to the Group -- so ... well, welcome! ;-) DB
