I have never noticed that diet made much difference to me at any point, really, except that as I progressed, I started losing interest in food altogether. I still have trouble remembering to eat or wanting to eat. I can now understand why Amritanandamayi Ma became suddenly unable to feed herself and had to be fed by her devotees for the rest of her life! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ > > Physical survival is not necessarily a major goal > from a spiritual point of view. One cannot really say one has attained until one has dealt with the question of one's own death. I found Buddhist corpse meditations very useful, particularly the Chod meditation. ############################################## Other parts of sadhana include learning grounding > and > shielding techniques so that you don't become > overwhelmed by > the negative energies of others. I have a firm grounding grounding in Western esotericism as well. Most of my spiritual work was done right in the downtown core of a capital city, with occasional forays into the large cemetery nearby for a modified version of shava sadhana, so if one can learn to deal with THAT, one has no real problem anywhere else! If anything, it is becoming more and more apparent that YOU YOURSELF seem to be having problems with negative energies, actually. ###############################################> > > Another piece of misinformation. In fact, Dr. Svoboda DID damage himself with pranayama while in India studying Ayurveda, and Vimalananda advised him that pranayama was dangerous, for the very reasons I have cited. The exact dialogue I mention can be found in "Kundalini" (second volume of "Aghora"), right at the beginning of the main text, for those who are interested. One might also be tempted to point out the dangers inherent in handing out spiritual advice; if people damage themselves thereby, at least part of the karma for that falls at the door of the person who gave the advice in the first place! This is why I prefer people to take the devotional approach, it is less likely to bring you to grief. Even Ramakrishna warned his own disciples away from the "heroic" path that he himself had followed, because it was all too easy to fall and be lost, if one's aspiration was not firm. For instance, I went out and brought home a pizza for my husband and daughter today, cuz I was too busy to cook for them, and I wasn't going to eat any of it but I did have two small slices, and I feel almost nauseous. It's like something in me changed. It feels kinda weird -- and I can really relate to the loss of appetite you express here. I felt like it was a big effort to have to deal with even thinking about food. It's hard to explain the weirdness of it. Of how it feels. Actually, that is Anandamayi Ma, that famous Bengali spiritual genius of a saint from the previous century. Amritanandamayi Mata (1953-) also had similar experiences; during her roughly six-month sadhana period where she was trying to get Devi's darshan again (she was completely realized when she took up this sadhana), would eat anything from sand to glass pieces to wooden twigs to sustain herself. Mother's ways of realizing herself! Jai Ma!

This is why one needs an authentic, Self-realized Guru as a guide through sadhana.
