Guest guest
One hand hold a "Kumbha" or water pot, and the other holds a rosary. Traditionally Brahmacharini is thought of as a women who is into celibacy. The kumbha/ kalasa/ Kamandalu is a pot filled with water. It represents the deity and may be understood as an expression of several values, mostly related to the generative and purifying power of the water. The rosary symbolizes concentration or the meditative process involved in the acquiring of knowledge. She is dress in white, which symbolizes purity. Sometimes it is tough especially in the beginning of our spiritual journey, especially for those who are householder and with work commitment, it can be a challenge. There will always be obstacles that will try to block us, and the tendency for us to get caught in this web of things. Brahmacharini is that very power to help us to overcome this obstacles. She gaves us the strength to remain focus and faithful to our quest. Our Mind and heart needs to remain pure only then knowledge and wisdom will come knocking. Brahmacharini personifies commitment and self discipline as one start their spiritual journey towards the divine. This journey is the migration from a world of ignorance and bondage towards enlightment and freedom.
Guest guest
I didn't see a post for the first of Durga's nine names (Shailaputri). Nor for the third night's name (Chandraghanta). Please, practicing Hindus, let us know how you are celebrating Devi Navaratri (the Nine Nights of the Goddess). -- Len/ Kalipadma On Fri, 15 Oct 2004 17:33:21 -0000 "N.
