Everyday is Navaratri to me and Every night is the night for DEVI. Maybe the only additional things I do during these nine nights is to light 2 lamps infront of our door and cook nine different types of rice as offering to HER. I am being reminded, Not to overfeed HER or she will get stomach ache. Hahahaaaa. I don't know DEVI too will get stomach ace. Then we go to temple for special prayers in one of the night. But always start the prayers in our home first before going to temple. Dosent sounds that interesting eh!
Guest guest
I do not consider myself a Hindu, but I decided to celebrate Navaratri to enhance my studies...through some traditional ways combined with my ways. On the first day, I did a liquid and milk fast since it was the New Moon, while doing the nightly prayers and mantras. I would have done other things, such as the dandia ras [spelling?], but Sharma [friend] is busy so I had no one to perform the dance with, nor did I have anyone to instruct me on how it is done. I also offered food to the Goddess. The second day, I cooked a nice meal and offered more food to the Goddess. I spent much of my free time resting and thinking about her, as doing some of the nightly prayers and mantras. She was in my dreams last night, which I am still contemplating on. Today so far, I offered her more food and decorated her picture with a really nice, silver frame that has beads and hibiscuses carvings in it. I also am doing another fast for not only disciplining myself and purifying myself, but as a symbol of sacrifice to Her. After typing out some of my English report, I plan to do some bellydancing to Her (for personal touch) and spend the day reading translations of significant Indian scriptures (may not finish any of them, but it is a good time for study! ). Who knows what I will do for the next days...I am willing to hear comments and suggestions from experienced practitioners of the Vedic faiths. Guest guest
Pranam. In our house, we cook a diff type of grain for each day as naivedyam. We then do a simple Ganesh puja and then the main mantropuja with kunguma and flowers for Devi. After that, we sing the Mahishasura mardini stotram and a few bhajans. After deepa aaradhanai, we do namaskaram whilst chanting part of the Devi suktham which starts with the verse "Ya devi sarva bhuteshu..."Finally, we do aarathi. Then, we eat the prashadam. With Love Shankaree Let my every word be a prayer to Thee, Every movement of my hands a ritual gesture to Thee, Every step I take a circumambulation of Thy image, Every morsel I eat a rite of sacrifice to Thee, Every time I lay down a prostration at Thy feet; Every act of personal pleasure and all else that I do, Let it all be a form of worshiping Thee." >From Verse 27 of Shri Aadi Shankara's Saundaryalahari ALL-NEW Messenger - all new features - even more fun!
