Guest guest
The way that Gopi Krishna got himself into trouble was by using lotuses..when Kundalini stated to rise, there was nothing for Her to "self-identify" with except the operator himself! The benefit of the book "Kundalini" that I keep yattering on about, is that it makes it very clear that the operator must have a "God-Form" ready in his/her psyche for the risen Kundalini to identify with, and not mundane images like lotuses or snakes, or it is liable to recoil back on you and cause any amount of serious distress, just as Lars has described! This is the benefit of devotional contemplation of God-Forms and Yantras...our western society revolts against the seeming "idolatry" of the innumerable Hindu pantheon of Deities, simply because the Bible enjoins against "graven images". This is what happens when one embraces doctrinal teachings that are possibly dated, or irrelevant..the Sufis warn at length against taking any written teachings to heart because they may not be relevant to your particular time and place, and thus do great harm! It says right in the Bhagavad-Gita : "The Path of Transcendence (i.e. God without Form) is difficult for mortals to attain!" It is much easier to worship God with Form, than God without Form. Why flail around futilely with a methodology that is too abstract for most of us and concentrate on the methodology that Ramakrishna taught: that of simple and intense devotion to a particular aspect of the Divine that has significance to YOU, personally! THEN, when you attain to the Deity, you can ASK them for access to the Formless, if that's what you want! God is simple, it is MAN who complicates things! "Ye must become as a little child"...
