Guest guest
What I meant was, is that one should be careful about the Deity-form one chooses to worship, if you are a non-Indian, and not familiar with Indian Deities.(I cannot necessarily know if the person asking is Indian; many Westerners adopt Indian names) Lots of Westerners talk very glibly about worshipping Kali without realizing what She can be like, and it is one thing to have a calling, as I did, and quite another to simply decide one day that you need more God in your life and pick the Indian Goddess with the skull necklace because you saw it on TV and it looked cool! If you are of a sensitive or heavily deluded nature and you pick Smashan Kali to meditate on, you are liable to frighten yourself terribly if She should appear to you all bloody and dangling with skulls and chopped-off heads all over the place, or your delusions start shattering like cheap glasses! She IS the Destroyer of Illusion, after all! That being said, it is a fact that the very shy, sweet-natured, and holy Shri Sarada Devi, the wife of Ramakrishna Paramahansa, was a devotee of Smashan Kali! I usually recommend that Westerners who want to worship Kali do so using the image of Dakshineswar Kali, because that way they will tap into the Ramakrishna devotional current, which is a known quantity. I do not wish to be responsible for someone coming to spiritual harm as a result of advice I have given them...advice is a karma, you know, and spiritual advice, much more so!! Lilith M. --- "N.
