Khadgamala Devis Seris: The Second Enclosure

My apologies are in order, as we are now entering our third week in

the Second Enclosure of the Sri Yantra, and I have not yet completed a

detailed introduction. It is coming, I do promise that. But in the

meantime, here is some general information that you may find useful.

 

This week we introduce Ahamkar Akarshini, "She Who Attracts the Power

of Ego". She is the 31st Devi of the Khadgamala, and the 3rd of 16

yoginis in the Second Enclosure, which is the first lotus ring of Sri

Yantra. This enclosure is also known as SarvAsha Pari PUraka Cakra:

the wheel that fulfills all your desires.

 

The Devis or Yoginis in this enclosure are called the Akarshinis. They

are the 16 attractive powers identified with the 16 days of the lunar

calendar. According to traditional Hindu arts of Kama, the erotic zone

moves up from the feet to the head in the bright half of the lunar

month; then comes again down in the dark half of the lunar month. The

expression of Eros occurs through the various powers of the mind as

represented by the goddesses of the Second Enclosure:

(6/34) RupAkarsini, She who attracts the power of form and sight;

 

(7/35) RasAkarsini, She who attracts the power of taste;

 

(8/36) GandhAkarsini, She who attracts the power of scent;

 

(9/37) CittAkarsini, She who attracts the power of the mind;

 

(10/38) DharyAkarsini, She who attracts the power of valor and courage;

 

(11/39) SmrityAkarsini, She who attracts the power of memory;

 

(12/40) NamAkarsini, She who attracts the power of names;

 

(13/41) BijAkarsini, She who attracts the power of seeds or semen;

 

(14/42) AtmAkarsini, She who attracts the power of the self;

 

(15/43) AmritAkarsini, She who attracts the power of immortality; and

 

(16/44) SarirAkarsini, She who attracts the power of mortality.
