After mentionig her arms, he describes her weapons which are of three kinds, by this and the next three names. Desire (raga) or a peculiar mental modification or wish (iccha). Desire is sthe supreme (the 3rd) vasana form, the noose being the gross form. This weapon she has in her lower left hand. 9. Shining with the elephant hook of both wrath and worlly knowledge (krodhakarankusojjvala). Wrath (krodha) is the mental modification known as hatred. Akara worldly knowledge. Some say krodha mean knowledge; but it is opposed to the Sruti which says, “wrath is elephant-hook.†Hence she shines holding in her lower right hand the elephant-hook which is both hatred and worldly knowledge. The Purvactussatisastra says: “ The noose and the elephant-hook of Hers are spoken of as sthe desire and anger.†The Tantraraja in the Vasana chapter says: “ Mind is the bow of sugarcane, desire the noose, anger the goad, and the five subtle elements (tanmaatrast) the five arrows of flowers.†But the Yoginihrdaya (I.53) says: “The noose is icchasakti, the goad jnana, and the bow and arrows kriyasakti.†Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
