Pardon me, the basis is it was his first Miracle, to change Water into Wine, not for drunkenness but for intoxication -- there's a difference ;-) Can YOU change water into wine, for instance? Could Crowley? According to myth, Jesus Did this, and it was indeed his First miracle ( at least the first on record )...;-) There is NO religious festival were anyone is encouraged to get drunk. At least not in my Lutheran upbringing. Peace, Cathie

Flesh is bad and to be ascended. Masculine equals transcendance. Feminine Earth is abused and trampled under the feet of men. Women are seen as the gateway to Hell because they are the object of men's desires... i'm NOT going to discuss jewish traditions or kabbalah with you, i have a friend who is a classical jewish rabbi. thank you. blessings of the Goddess, Jai Ma!!! Pardon me, what is the base for this interpretation? Wine was commonly used by jews as drink and also necessarily used in ritual - like on Sabbath and festivals. There is one religious festival when one HAS TO get drunk! Bride and Bridegroom in NT never mean heaven and hell. If we go rather far in kabbalistic speculation we may reach this conclusion but that is of no sense. Wine symbolised joy - in both indian and jewish traditions. And was used in ritual in both traditions as well from very ancient times till recent. "I am above you and in you. My ecstasy is in yours. My joy is to see your joy" (Liber AL 1.13). A. Concerning intoxication i wrote already. Of course, physical intoxication was there as well. > There is NO religious festival were anyone is encouraged to get drunk. Guest guest
Don't get too upset with this character. He has no understanding of his own, no intuitive knowledge. He gets all of his knowledge from books but his knowledge is false because he misinterprets those writings due to his mind being so dense. He is a fundamentalist. He hides behind scripture to mask his fear and uncertainty. He takes scripture literally never dreaming that scripture is metaphor, with a profound message under the surface for those who are able to discern it. Perhaps all that alcohol has destroyed too many of his brain cells.
