Guest guest
93 There are many sahasranamas (hymns of 1000 names) of Kali. However i`m afraid in english only one is available, that too in VERY bad translation. It is incorporated in Satyananda Sarasvati`s book "Kali Puja" (i`m speaking of american swami, not indian one under the same name). If U are interested in original sanskrit texts then: 1. Most common Dakshinakali-sahasranama (aka Kakaradi-medhadayaka) originates from Mahakala-samhita and is found also in Shakta-pramoda, Mantra-maharnava and Shyama-rahasya. Then it is rather common to be found in numerous paddhatis etc in sanskrit and hindi. 2. Shamashanakali-sahasranama originates from Kalikula-sarvasva. It is published in separate edition in sanskrit and also met in some paddhatis etc. It is this sahasranama that is "tortured" in "Kali Puja" book. 3. Kamakalakali-sahasranama originates from corresponding khanda of Mahakala-samhita. Never met it anywhere else, it is indeed rare. 4. Some other Kali-sahasranamas are met in tantric paddhatis. Don`t remember details of them however. Guest guest
By the way, I've been meaning to mention that my Kali painting is uploaded to Shakti Sadhana's pictures page. But you can view it larger and with some text at http://users.lmi.net/maxdashu/kindreds/kali.html and a closeup at http://users.lmi.net/maxdashu/kindreds/kaliclose.html Max -- Max Dashu Suppressed Histories Archives Global Women's Studies http://www.suppressedhistories.net
Guest guest
I just checked out your painting and I have to say - I find talent in your work! Speaking of art, I am actually trying to draw out Ma Kali in my sketchbook in the way that I see her (not too far from most Indian pictures of her, just a difference in style). I have a fair amount of other art work, mainly based on my "little roleplaying world" that I used to dedicate time to, as far as storylines went...but then other things got in the way and I suddenly stopped working on the art. That, and my art class at the time put so much pressure on me that I burnt out for a while.
