Guest guest
The image/icon of Kali has been analysed from so many angles, feminist structural, historical and from the point of view of psychoanalysis. Nobody can really *explain* kali, thats the whole point. For me personally, the image of Kali standing or having sex with a supine Shiva has the same meaning as the Srichakra with its five downward pointing and four upward pointing triangles. It represents conciousness and energy in eternal coitus giving rise to the entire universe and being the entire universe. She is not something that is uncorntrollable and should be controlled, she can never be controlled. She is beyond mind, beyond all duality and she is the totality. If you (and others) can appreciate this viewpoint, maybe you can understand the metaphor Nora and I posted at different times. One more point: there is no need to see the "uncontrollable" as a weakness (this is the implied meaning I am reading in your post). that is hardly what was being suggested. You can instead see it as a "lila" that endeavors to endear certain devotees to Lord Shiva, or for that matter, to put devotees in awe of Kali Ma's obvious temper at injustice and tyranny towards her devotees (hence she drank the asuras blood etc) Shiva, Kali, Vishnu, Jesus, and so on. Who cares which deity you attune to, to reach the goal (nirguna brahman / nirvikalpa samadhi)? All I am requesting is that instead of taking it as a slight to Mother Kali which was never intended, take it as a metaphor to glorify Lord Shiva or even Ma Kali. In the end, they are all one..... if you get this, you get; if you don't get this, you don't. either way, there is nothing to be done except to accept that the viewpoints are different, but that we are all praising the same ideal/goal.
