I was too lazy to type much LOL, but it seems i had to. Ok, There is a list of 18 Mahapuranas which we all know. In that list we get the name of "Bhagavata"-purana. According to Devi-bhagavata itself this "Bhagavata" means "Devi-bhagavata". But according to other sourses, it refers to vaishnava Shrimad-bhagavata. What i told about scientific analisis is that scientists proved that Devi-bhagavata was written later than vaishnava Bhagavata - thus it CANNOT be Mahapurana. However most probably original Bhagavata-mahapurana is lost. While both vaishnava and shakta texts under this name are later compositions. A.
