Guest guest
[Transcript of a brief conversation this morning:] Guru: You are quiet today. Sadhak [in USA]: I am too depressed to talk. Guru: But when you are depressed, that's the time to talk. Talking to friends will help. But it's up to you. Sadhak: This whole election has me seriously worried about the fate of this country. For generations to come. Guru: Yes, but that's not any reason for you to get upset. Devi has her own reasons. Sadhak: I would love to know what they are. The whole world is going to suffer for this, not just the U.S. Guru: I know. I am sad too. But do not get upset, okay? What's the use? It is like surrendering before your enemy even threatens you. Sadhak: You know, this morning as I was leaving the house I looked up and saw [statue of] Kamala smiling down. And all I could do was to laugh and say to Her, "You have an interesting plan in store, don't you?" Guru: I am sure she has. Sadhak: But what? Guru: I think perhaps it's the destruction of fanatical Islam and then of fanatical Americans. The real Muslim should be okay. And the real America too. Your family is mine to protect and it shall be so.
Guest guest
" Your family is mine to protect and it shall be so." An awesome reminder in a time of distress. As Swami Sivananda says in Bliss Divine: "So long as there is a world, there are Gurus and Vedas to guide the struggling souls in the path of Self-realisation. The number of realised souls may be less in the Iron Age when compared with the Satya Yuga, but they are always present to help the aspirants, Let each man take the path according to his capacity, temperment, and understanding. His Sadguru will meet him along the path. Guru-kripa, grace of a Guru, is very necessary. That does not mean that the disciple should sit idle. He must do rigid Purushartha, spiritual practices. The whole work must be done by the student. Nowadays, people want a drop of water from the Kamandalu of a Sannyassin and desire to enterinto Samadhi immediately. They are not prepared to undergo and Sadhana for purification and Self-realisation. They want a magic pill to push them into Samadhi. If you have got such delusion, give it up immediately. The Guru and the Shastras can show you the path and remove your doubts. Anubhava of the Aparoksha kind or direct intuitive knowledge is left for your own experience. A hungry man will have to eat for himself. He who has a severe itching will have to scratch for himself. No doubt, the Guru's blessing can do everythin. But how can one have his blessings? By pleasing the Guru. A Guru can be please with his disciple only if the latter carries out his spiritual instructions implicitly. Carefully follow, therefore, the instructions of the Guru. Act up to his instructions. Then only will you deserve his blessings, and then alone his blessings can do everything." Guest guest
I have been heartsick for a day and all I could think is, Jagadambe, what does this mean? What are we to do? I throw myself at your feet, and on your breast: give me samatva and vairagya to endure this pain and to keep the faith. All month I have been recalling what Ammachi says, Wherever you may be, if you have strong faith, you will succeed in everything. Have expansive vision and even-mindedness. > The whole world is going >to suffer for this, not just the U.S. > >Guru: I know. I am sad too. But do not get upset, okay? What's the >use? It is like surrendering before your enemy even threatens you. There is something to that! Grief does have a way of posing an immediate challenge to faith and courage. I think your Guru (who? sorry, I missed this) is right about the fanaticism. Unfortunately, yesterday shows that we are going to have to go through the fire before we are past it. What this development says to me, as I meditated on it, is that the American empire is going to fall sooner than later. Nothing remains to stay the hand of the militarists. (Not that the Democrats had the spine to stand up against them before.) And there will be global economic consequences, not only the US economy run off the tracks, and accelerated environmental destruction, and human rights violations. I think Sister Usha Devi is right, most people in the US are ignorant of what is really going on. I am not trying to start a political discussion, it's just that these events go to the heart of what spiritual seeking addresses: our pain, human error, and the divine work. The last century saw terrible atrocities, and it seems that we are heading that way again. The Iraqis have already suffered so much in the last decade. My heart goes out to them, and to us all. peace, Max -- Max Dashu Suppressed Histories Archives Global Women's Studies http://www.suppressedhistories.net
