Bhattacharyya writes that its Shaktism's origins lie in the prehistoric (Paleolithic-era) Goddess cults, which eventually blended with the various later Vedic and Tantric to become a unique and powerful tradition, now considered as one of the four major schools of the religious system generally known as Hinduism.
