In South India, where he is better known as Murugan, Skanda has two

wives, Valli and Devasena. In Northern India, Skanda is a batchelor and

distains the company of women.

In South India, Ganesha (who is usually called Pillayar) the the

batchelor -- he likes to entertain the Goddesses, but is "safe" because

of his vows of brahmacharya. At the Hindu Temple of Flushing (South

Indian style) they see Ganesha as a "Momma's boy" and an honorary Shakti.

North India is where Ganesha has his wives (usually named Buddhi and

Siddhi). Sometimes he is shown in very erotic Tantric postures.
