Guest guest
93 , "Sarabhanga Giri" There is no point of arguement now - we talk about slightly different things. I totally agree on what U wrote but still i state that tantrikas do not necessarily WORSHIP Skanda as personified deity. I understand metaphisical interpretations U provided and i can give some more as well. But what i said was related to actual sadhana. I am a kaula but i do not chant any mantras of Skanda/Karttikeya/ Muruga neither as japa nor in rituals. And neither of my gurus who were from different lineages used Skanda-mantras (although they knew them of course). I may say that vaishnava Sudarshana can be identified with Skanda to some degree; but again, worship of Sudarshana is not a must in vaishnava-tantrism. > After all the mundane talk of Kula ritual and human seed, would you > deny that Kaulas have any devotion to the divine Seed of Lord Shiva? They have! But they do not personify it as Skanda nor do they use this name. That's all. I do not deny Ur interpretation, it is valid. We can continue that Ganapati in fact stands for Yoni while Skanda for Linga. There is rather strong base for such interpretation. But it is not necessarily reflected in practical sadhana. We cannot argue the fact that so many kaula-masters never practiced any Skanda-worship and even didn't mention his name. But they also would agree that Skanda can be understood in this or that way - there is no problem from philosophical point of view. U see, we can take even some more specific and peculiar mythologies of local deities and still connet them with kaula-mata. But it doesn't imply that kaulas do worship Kattavarayan, Anjaneya or Khandoba... But it is very good to bring up and explain inner meanings of mythological figures. Then tantrism can be understood more properly by people. If U post something related to this topic i guess it would help people . A.
