Guest guest
I was inspired to do a poem, approaching Bhakti in the eyes of a Shakta (keyword: "a"). I had a Shakta critique my work, and s/he asked me to share it with you all. Bhakti - Devotion. By Christina ------- Every thought of mine concerns you, All of my actions are to please you, I study to learn how to heal other's mind, So that I may bring this world the grace of thine. Om aim hrim srim om namastri purasundari - I bow to you, the most beautiful Lady of all the waking, dreaming, and sleeping worlds. I bow before you humbly, So that you may do what you will to me, I lower my head to you, To offer my ego, as well as myself. Om hrim srim krim Aadya Kalika Parame-swari swaha - "Om and salutations to She who is the first one, dark within her own reality, the supreme primordial feminine, who cuts through illusion to the unabridged truth of existance." You are the one who has gifted me with faith, You the one who destroys my ignorance, Through your hand the demons fall, With your wisdom I remain strong. In the eyes of a child, you are the name for God, In the eyes of the ignorant, you are an intimidating one, In my eyes, you are all that I could ask for, For you, my mother and father as one, offers unconditional love... Bless you who is part of this world yet beyond this world, Bless you who creates and destroys, who makes this cycle turn, Blessed be to the one who gives the great boon of liberation, For nothing in the endless worlds and universe can surpass your Supreme Reality. Your eternal love, transcends this world of death and rebirth. Because of the strength you give me, I no longer fear death. Through my devotion to you, I learned that worldly pleasures are not everything. Because of you, I know that I am no longer alone. Please give me nothing more than the power to serve thee, Take my soul as an offering to thee, Endow me with the wisdom needed to be closer to thee, Because I wish for no more than to devote my selfless love to thee. As the ancient sage Sri Adi Shankara once said: "Let my every word be a prayer to Thee, Every movement of my hands a ritual gesture to Thee, Every step I take a circumambulation of Thy image, Every morsel I eat a rite of sacrifice to Thee, Every time I lay down a prostration at Thy feet; Every act of personal pleasure and all else that I do, Let it all be a form of worshiping Thee." (Shankara's Saundaryalahari (Flood of Beauty), Verse 27)
