Dear friend,Hari Om. Pranams. As this is my first message, please allow me to

introduce myself. I am a retired government official in India. Even while in

service I was engaged in research and publication. I am a senior Editor and

publisher by profession. My mission in life is to be instrumental in spreading

knowledge on the Vedic spiritual and cultural heritage. The system of Yoga is

an essential part of this heritage. I am convinced that the entire humanity

needs them and has a right to have them. With the emphasis on universal oneness

and harmony, this knowledge of Vedic literature can immensely help the mankind

live peacefully and prosperously. We have a moral obligation to share what we

have inherited with others who are in need of it. I am actively engaged in

projects of teaching and publishing connected

with Vedic literature, including allied works. I am involved in the subjects of

Vedic Astrology and Yoga also. Naturally I am interested in knowing about the

work of other scholars and devotees and make a common cause wherever it means

mutual benefit. My projects are not carried on with 'business' motive but I

design them to be self- sustaining. I am not a very rich man to carry them on

entirely as a charitable proposition. They are all no-loss-no-profit endeavors

combined with 'service overtone'.I am aware of various schools of thought

competing with one another; but my view is that all of them can co-exist and

help mankind to achieve material and spiritual welfare, if they do not miss to

notice the presence of the one and only common bond called differently by

different groups.Nitya KalyanWe have a duty to mankind to share what we have

inherited in the form of rich Vedic and allied literature

with all the people in the world. This is best done by explaining them in

English. A new international English monthly magazine Nitya Kalyan is to be

published from Chennai. This magazine is committed to the spread of knowledge

of Indian cultural heritage and ancient wisdom. It is a matter of urgent

necessity that the ideas of universal oneness and harmony enshrined in the

Vedas and allied literature are explained in English, to ensure the peace and

prosperity of the mankind threatened by several negative forces of the modern

world. Nitya Kalyan is committed to accomplish this. This is a no-profit-no-loss

effort. The first issue of Nitya Kalyan will appear in the second week of

September 2004.Nitya Kalyan, the international English monthly magazine is

dedicated to integrate our happy day-to-day life with well-defined purusharthas

viz., dharma, artha, kama and moksha, enshrined in our scriptures. Nitya Kalyan

stands for eternal happiness and also the means leading to it. Eternal happiness

is not an idle dream that becomes real accidentally to a select few. Vedic

philosophy does not believe in any such silly imagination. The foundation for

the Vedic philosophy is the concept of dharma that is, natural and value-based

expression of self. A serious student of the Vedic philosophy can never miss

how result-oriented the Vedic philosophy is. The Vedas belong to everybody,

irrespective of caste, creed or color. They are the inheritance of all the

living beings. The Vedic concepts may be studied and appreciated by us through

the various sastras, puranas, ithihasas and countless other forms of

literature, including Yoga Sutra. The study and practice of these values are

possible to one and all. Even a villager without much formal education can

understand and adopt them. Our ancient systems ensured such percolation of

knowledge

among all the categories of the people. With the weakening of our ancient

systems and adoption of western ways of life, this flow of knowledge has been

adversely affected. As a result, the value-based life of our people is changing

to mere mammon worship. Our ancient system does not neglect any aspect of life,

including wealth and other normal pleasures of life. But they were strictly

subordinated to the dharma, so that the individual would not degenerate and

become a knave; so that, his kalyan would not be short-lived but would be

eternal. FormatPeriodicity: MonthlySize: (Like Tattvaloka of Sringeri Math)

Respected Moderator,

Pranams.

It is a matter of general acceptance that the Vedas form the

foundation of sanatana religion now called Hinduism. The Vedas are

universal. The Nalayira Divya Prabandam and Thevaram are regarded by

Vaishnavas and Saivas respectively as the Vedas in Tamil.

Irrespective of the subdivisions, the tenets of the Vedas serve as

the unifying bond of our Sanatana religion.

There is an urgent need for providing knowledge of our Vedic

Heritage, Devotional Literature and allied areas of knowledge in

English because a substantial section of our people, especially

youngsters, are able to understand these things better in English.

This trend is likely to grow further in future. Unless we provide an

instrument of communication in English for the specific purpose, the

vital linkage may be broken very soon.

Apart from this, there is one more important consideration. The Vedas

are universal. Even the Plant Kingdom has a right to be benefited by

it. It is our duty to share what we have inherited with all the

peoples of the world. So presenting them in English becomes a moral

obligation to us.

There are of course some general religious books and magazines in

English. Not all of them do justice to the universality of the Vedic

spirit. Trying to live within a shell created for us, however

comfortable it may be, is not adequate. It is not becoming of one who

has inherited the Vedic treasure by virtue of his birth.

But to provide a concerted effort in this direction, providing

coverage to all the subdivisions - highlighting the unifying aspects

of all but without spoiling particular sampradayas - an international

monthly magazine in English by name 'Nitya Kalyan' has been launched.

This is not just another magazine but an urgent, sacred mission.

The first issue of the magazine was released by Pujyasri Acharya of

Kanchi Kamakoti Peetamm on Vijayadasami Day (23-10-04) at Madurai.

Those interested in this mission may contact

venkataramanks for further information.

I request you kindly to forward this message for the benefit of all

members of our group.

They are also welcome to

join nityakalyan for better interaction

with the like minded persons.

If you would agree, it would be in furtherence of our objectives to

publish an essay on the Shakti Sadhana by you, or by any

other learned member of our group, in Nitya Kalyan for the benefit of

more number of persons.

With kind regards,

Kudanthai Sa Venkataraman
