Guest guest
One good way to find out who your deity is is to ask Ganesha to help you! Whenever I have a question about anything like this, Ganesha is the natural all-round Deity to consult! As the son of Devi and the "Lord of the Ganas", He is always available, because He is the "first to be worshipped". As the Remover of Obstacles, He will remove whatever is keeping you apart from your Ishta Devata. I would obtain a sandalwood or turmeric mala and make an offering of something sweet, your question written down on a piece of paper, some incense (I like kesar chandan), and after praying, do 108 reps of "Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha"! Do this every day (incense, offering and repetitions) and then watch carefully for manifestations of your Deity occurring around you.I myself started by seeing images of Shiva popping up EVERYWHERE! While praying, however, it is important that a strong feeling of "longing for" be present in your heart. Simply praying with no emotional reaction present will reap weak results, if any. One must be like a child, sincere and completely focused on the object of desire, in this case, wanting to know one's Ishta Devata. The more you "want" God, the faster God will come to you.
