Raju Singh, 20, a resident of Piparhiya village in Bhojpur district, slashed his wrists in a Kali temple Monday. In a four-page letter recovered by police from his pocket, Singh said he had for long waited for a divine glimpse of the goddess but was killing himself as she had failed to appear. Singh bled to death. Driven by superstition and blind faith, Awadh Kishore Jha, a jobless man in Golhatti village of Banka district, killed his daughter Dolly after sorcerers suggested she would bring misfortune to his family. Police said Jha had confessed that he did so as his daughter was a burden for his family. Police officials said Jha killed his daughter with a sharp weapon Saturday to get the blessings of Hindu goddess Kuldevi. He took the body to a place in the terai of Mandar Hills and disposed it of there after cutting it into pieces. After a police complaint was lodged, Jha was arrested and sent to jail.
