Guest guest
I don't care about "her" at all. She just stands as a symbol and perpetrator of the limited, shallow, self-absorbed mentality that is overtaking the youth of today. Instead of making their own music, young people are spending huge amounts of their time and money on someone who can barely even play a musical instrument, whose music is mediocre at best, when they could be spending that money and time making their OWN music and finding out their OWN talents and interests, rather than filling the pockets of someone who regards them at best as a big dumb cash cow she can milk for millions, meanwhile using them to pump up her ego as some kind of mover and shaker in the "music" industry. The last thing the music industry is about these days is MUSIC. It's all about who can be the most undressed without actually being naked. It is about having endless plastic surgery, and covertly encouraging the public to follow suit. It is about who has the most "bling"; who can come up with the most obscene, degrading lyrics, and who has the biggest following, and the most publicity, and who can sell the most products. Madonna showed the industry the possibilities and started the ball rolling, that's exactly where the completely industry-manufactured "Britney Spears phenomenon" came from. And the dumb public just ate it up and begged for more. So you are free to be dumb sheep and allow yourself to be duped in this way, but I prefer not to allow myself to be led around by the nose. This sort of sheeplike attitude on the part of the public is exactly how politicians get away with all their bullshit. I prefer to use my brain for its intended purpose, rather than merely to keep my ears separated. Lilith M. --- NMadasamy <nmadasamy wrote: > > Lili Masamura wrote:True. Guest guest
Hm, well it's easy to be hateful toward a symbol and not have to bother with a person, and easy to be dismissive of anyone who sees, feels or thinks differently than you do. I have heard many men criticize Madonna, saying that she has no talent, and that all the talent is in her producers. This is a criticism leveled at many women who succeed. Guest guest
My, oh My, why all this discussion of Madonna? She is a savey woman who has marketed the talent she has, surrounded herself with people who can write songs for her that will sell. People go to see her concerts not so much for the music but to see what outrageous antics she'll come up with on a particular tour. I give her all the credit in the world for taking on the male dominated music industry and setting them on their ears. Good for her but to put her in the genius category is a bit much. She's an event, kind of like the tent shows that used to travel the country. Again I give her all the credit it the world for becoming one of the richest women in the world. The last time I checked the amount of money in one's checkbook did not equate to a genius mentality. So everyone enjoy her music if she's your thing, but a poet or a genius she is not. Guest guest
Namaste Kathy, For the record, I have not claimed that I think that Madonna is a musical genius, but I am reacting to the rather inflamatory assumptions about humble beginnings. And she is a poet. Almost all of us are. A few of us are good at it. She may not be one of them, but as a lyricist she penned some ditties that moved me. And like you I give her credit for tenacity and also for bold self confidence that I think should rather catch on among young women. It's better than the model of helplessness. Guest guest
It would be nice to see young women show some determination in directions that involve the inside of the head instead of the outside, and which do not involve exploiting sexuality or silicone tits, or trendy clothes or makeup or any of that stuff. But I am just dreaming...
