Guest guest
PHILADELPHIA (Jan 13, 2005): American radio station Power 99 has suspended two radio jockeys after they phoned and abused an Indian girl working in a call centre. The RJs, half-brothers Star and Buc Wild (real names Troi Torain and Timothy Joseph), mixed threats with racial abuse, calling the girl "bitch" and "filthy". The abusive brothers called to place an order for hair beads like those worn by Venus and Serena Williams, but said they were for their "white daughter" (the duo are both black). Power 99 apologised and said such action would not be repeated, after angry Indians shot off more than 130 emails and phone calls to the station. Rita Addessa, a human rights activist, said she was "appalled" when another human-rights activist forwarded her the audio file. "I couldn't believe in the year 2005 that any broadcaster would dare be so racist and misogynistic," she said. In an e-mail to members of Asian cultural and journalism associations, Devalina Guha-Roy, who teaches in Philadelphia, called the crank call "outright racism." Since the Star and Buc Wild show began airing on Power 99 three months ago, the duo has been getting into trouble. The two were suspended after Star made fun of the death of singer Aaliyah in a plane crash. The abuse was aired earlier but an employee of Power 99 posted the audio clip on the radio station's website, though it was removed yesterday after complaints poured in. Power 99's Loraine Morrill said the employee who posted the clip had been reprimanded and would have to undergo "sensitivity training". "Essentially (we're) apologizing for things on our Web site that were racially inflammatory and insensitive, saying, `We took it off our Web site and it won't happen again.'" Guest guest
But you see that the radio station did not give sensitivity training to the two persons and has infact given them a rise and is transferring them to New York. They victimised the employee who published it. That much for the "zero tolerence" policy of the company.
