Guest guest
Well, as someone who spent her youth cutting a swath through the written word, rather than parked in front of the TV and immersed in "pop" culture, I am somewhat less than swept away with the "profundity" of these lyrics you posted, sorry. I certainly hope that they give you comfort in the latter days, when the Madonnas and the pornographers of the world are sitting pretty atop their piles of wealth, when the rest of us can no longer afford food to eat or water to drink, once the groundwater disappears. Here are some simple lyrics that you may recognize; this song was in fact written by the captain of a slave ship, who had such a profound spiritual awakening that he immediately ordered his ship about and took the slaves back to Africa. Surely some of that spirit imbues this song: Amazing grace! How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now I see 'Twas grace that caused my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved How wondrous did that grace appear, The hour I first did see Through many toils, traps, and snares I have already come, 'Twas grace that keept me safe thus far, And grace shall lead me home. Amazing grace! How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now I see. --- Mary Ann <buttercookie61 wrote: > > Excellent point! > > I also wanted to add that just because certain music > appeals to > a lot of people does not make that music valueless > by any > means. > > This song comes to mind; no reflection on those > holidays just > passed, but this song isn't about religious > holidays. Guest guest
Thanks for the background on "..Grace," I didn't know that. I'll bet the tribal leaders who sold their people into slavery didn't give a refund when they were returned. Most likely, they sold them again and doubled their money. About "Holiday," I wasn't claiming it was profound or genius. I just see no harm in music that promotes love the world over, even if only for a day. Guest guest
Yes, and a cynical person might say that it also promotes dollars into Madonna's pockets. I am sure she doesn't much give a shit about "love" per se., it's just a good hook to pry dollars out of the pockets of those who believe in such a thing. Madonna is about money and self-promotion. Period. And whatever she can exploit to keep those sucker bucks pouring in, she will exploit. That has been amply demonstrated time and again.
