Hi MsB:

Your point is well taken, and I'm certainly not

offended when anyone "goes all feminist." For whatever

reason, all of the newspaper articles used the term

"girl," in the sense of the non-offensive

Indian-English colloquial "working girl" (which

carries none of the negative connotations that term

can pack in modern U.S. usage).

So anyway, when pounding out these posts (as you've

probably noticed, my typing and editing is

fast-n-loose; I do most of my Shakti Sadhana

moderation work on the fly, amid lots of other daily

obligations), I was re-reading these articles, all of

which refer to the woman in question as "this poor

girl" etc, and my brain just followed suit.

However, you are quite right, "woman" would have been

the more appropriate and respectful term. So I

apologize to you and to anyone else who might have

been offended.

Respectfully

DB

Then the gods saw Devi's supreme cosmic form: The Satyaloka is situated on the

topmost of Her head; the Sun and Moon are her eyes; the quarters, Her ears; the

Vedas are Her words; the Universe is Her heart; the earth is Her loins; the

space between earth and sky is Her navel; the constellations are Her Thighs; the

Maharaloka is Her neck; the Janarloka is Her face; Indra and the Devas and then

Svarloka are her arms; the sound is the organ of Her ears; the fire is within

her Face; day and night are like her two wings; the mountains are Her bones; the

rivers are Her veins, and the trees are the hairs of Her body. Youth, virginity,

and old age are Her finest modes; the two twilights are Her raiment; the Moon is

the mind of the Mother of the Universe.
