Guest guest
Less than five years ago, I knew a woman who worked as a lap dancer in a strip club. Granted I would NOT advise Anyone to work such a job but, in fact this young woman did. She did not complain about being abused in her profession. She had a boyfriend who knew her profession who was neither a pimp or a drug dealer. I"m not saying such jobs are to be recommended or highly sought after, but, I will always believe in the personal freedom of anybody to use their own body to make money if they can. Why can we prostitute our minds to the advertising industry, and oh but if some woman prostitutes her body. I'ts ALMOST as if we value her body MOREsoe than her mind, since we as a society could care Less if she prostitutes her mind. Less than five years ago, or approximately that long ago, I knew a hooker once (not the same woman as the lap dancer). What pathetic case that was. She had been kidnappped she said, by friends of her ex husband to get "even" with her. drugged and sold into sex-slavery as a hoooker. Finally she "woke up" one day and drug herself free to a friends house where she did "rehabe' on her couch. That was the world of the hijacked street hooker. So far as I know neither of these women had any "madonna" influence affecting their "career choices" IN my impression of madonnna and her music, i do NOT see a cult following of her among the younger generation in fact the younger generation seem to care LESS about madonna and it seems to me she draws the older women at least college aged, who have a value toward freedom about their sexuality, but absolutely NO tendency nor desire to be either strippers or hookers... I seriously Doubt a trip to the local present-time strip bar, would reveal a hoard of madonna followers. I seriously Doubt she intends to send out the image of free, wholesale sex. Rather, she seems to be political in an artsy kind of basic way, about sex and power dynamics in a way that says women should reClaim their freedom and their power and NOT give it away wholesale to Men ... maybe i have misunderstood something, peace, cathie In a message dated 1/16/2005 5:56:13 PM Mountain Standard Time, sephirah5 writes: > Further to my remarks about how Madonna's exploiting > and glamourizing certain images for "shock value" > among the youth of today to further her career has > measurably contributed to the weakening of moral fibre > in society, giving momentum to the rise in child > pornography,(sort of a "butterfly causing typhoon" > effect), I just yesterday caught an article on , > where a sixty-year-old male career counsellor was > addressing a group of EIGHTH GRADERS,(fourteen-year > olds) and not only mentioned "stripping" as a viable > career option, he even enumerated the financial > benefits at some length, and actually told them that > if they got silicone implants, they could expect to > make even more money. Guest guest
Lilith, while i applaud your heightened sensitivity to such issues and your tireless scrutiny of every detail of the marketing and advertising Moves of such Moguls as Brittany Spears and Madonna ( who I do not consider in the same category btw, considerin Spears does little to NONE of her own artistic work, while Madonna takes an active creative role in hers, to my understanding), i just do not feel that it is Madonnna who is fueling the porn industry OR the childhood pornography industry. SADLY, i knew a man very tentatively a while back, who was, SADLY, every immersed into porn, and Madonna was NOT a part of his vocabulary. Madonna is like child-play to real hard core porn industry types of this day and age. In my opinion, the puritans of the late part of the 1800's and the arly part of the 1900's have MORE to do with the porn industrie' s flourishing than does Madonna... at least as much so, if any direct correlation can bre made... Guest guest
Further to my remarks about how Madonna's exploiting and glamourizing certain images for "shock value" among the youth of today to further her career has measurably contributed to the weakening of moral fibre in society, giving momentum to the rise in child pornography,(sort of a "butterfly causing typhoon" effect), I just yesterday caught an article on , where a sixty-year-old male career counsellor was addressing a group of EIGHTH GRADERS,(fourteen-year olds) and not only mentioned "stripping" as a viable career option, he even enumerated the financial benefits at some length, and actually told them that if they got silicone implants, they could expect to make even more money. Now, as a former stripper myself, I can tell you I would NEVER advise anyone to get into the stripping business nowadays, much less push it to anyone(and especially NOT children!) as a "career option"!!! Sure, one can make a lot of money, but unlike the way it was back when I was into it,it is now simply glorified prostitution. Back when I was working, strippers stayed on the stage, and came nowhere near the audience, and the customers were expected to keep their distance. Now, strippers are expected to make full contact and allow the customers to finger them, plus the pressure to get implants is CONSTANT. I hung it all up when "table dancing" put in an appearance around the early 80s; I knew this was the start of a downhill slide for the business as a whole, and I was exactly right, in SPADES. (I can also tell you that my previous boyfriend once passed on to me the body lice he picked up from some lap dancer) Drugs are rampant in the business like never before, and numbers of drug dealers hang about the strip bars like vultures, never mind the pimps and porn scouts, preying on all the foolish young women with too much money and not enough sense to see what is really going on!... I have to wonder if this guy was secretly subsidized by the plastic surgeons/porn peddlers/clubowners/pimps (or all of the above!), to make such a presentation in front of children, to ensure the ongoing supply of "fresh meat"! But, I am sure I am just getting fussed over nothing again as usual; this will not surprise or disturb anyone here as much as it did me; after all, we are all free to make our own choices, and pimps and porn peddlers have a right to exist and make a living just like anyone else, and Devi must have her reasons for all this...
