The original impulse actually hit me last night when you asked the

answered. Hmm. Before I can say more, I've gotta do that self-

We call that lingam-polishing in the secret teachings -- it's the

art and science of comparing relative heft and polish of Shiva

linghams, and is considered highly special and esoteric. Bigger is

better, of course. Shinier is better too. Big and shiny both is like

the proverbial full house. No one can mess with you then. No one.

 

Nora, by the way, prefers the term "Spritual Masturbation" -- but,

being steeped in tradition, I become extremely offended whenever

anyone uses the term. So don't use it in front of me, okay? Or if

you decide to try, look out! And don't say I didn't warn you!

 

By the way, as a Shakta initiate (I slip that into conversations

whenever possible; it throws my opponents off balance and gives me

that "winning edge" ;-)), I usually have to do Yoni polishing

nowadays, in which the operative measure of is shifted to width and

depth (in Sanskrit, "Yonitude" as opposed to "Lingatude"). High

polish is still essential though. The winner is whoever has the

biggest/deepest shiniest aniconic symbol of all. Great fun at

cocktail parties and family gatherings!
