Guest guest
"Good question. That is what we all should do, Ask ourselves : What is the purpose of our sadhana. What do we hope to achieve from all these?" It seems that the usual group of people here who promote and justify the use of alcohol, drugs, rajasic/tamasic foods, sex, and other worldly distractions are claiming a scriptural justification for indulging in those practices. Because they are unable to give those practices and their enthrallment with the things of Maya, they employ psuedo-scriptural/religious reasons for doing so. This has the positive effect of indulging in these practices less and less. Using or inventing scripture/religious practice in these circumstances is like using a nicotine patch to quit smoking. These are litte albeit positive steps. By suggesting abstenence, I am inviting you take big steps and leave those addictions and their corrupting influence behind for good. If you want to find out first hand the disadvantages of eating meat, stop eating meat for a few months and then have just one meal with meat in it. You will notice how heavily that meat sits in your digestive tract, how much prana is required to digest it instead of being used for other, better purposes, and how your energy and thinking is dulled just by that one meal of meat. The proof is in the pudding but first you have to give up the pudding so that you are aware of its effects when it is eventually eaten again.
