Lilith replies:

Well, if you think about it, a woman has considerable biological creative

power...but it all lies completely dormant unless activated by a male! So, in a

manner of speaking, both aspects are absolutely necessary to creation; although

the actual male role in the biological process is brief, it is crucial to

initiate the creative biological process! But it is important to remember that

"male" and "female" are designations to be understood on all levels, and these

roles change as the levels change. Whatever activates creation but

does not itself create is "male"; whatever is activated into creation of

something new thereby is "female". We all contain these two powers within us,

but one generally tends to be latent and the other potent. The ideal is to

awaken the latent aspect within oneself and have both modes available for use;

such people are referred to in the West as "adepts". Women are

receivers/creators on the physical, but are activators/initiators on the astral

levels. This is why women can be "muses" to men; they have the "male"

power to activate men's latent "feminine" creative potential in the invisible

realms, inspiring them to great heights of material accomplishment. Dante's

"Beatrice" is an example of this. They can also act as great inspirers of

religious feeling in the world; look at Ammachi! Women are "weaker" only because

they choose to be "weak". Balancing one's personality like

this takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice, and most women simply give up and

fall back into their biological role, putting themselves at the mercy of

the patriarchal element. Men have no such "default position", thus there are

many more male "adepts" than women, giving the illusion that men are more

"powerful" than women. It is simply that most women have been brainwashed into

thinking their "power" lies solely in motherhood. It doesn't. Biology is NOT

power...that is why sadhus spend years trying to overcome and master their

biology! Motherhood is just another, and much more insidious form of maya; a

necessary one perhaps, which is what prevents us from seeing it for what it is,

but it is maya nonetheless, and is just as necessary to be overcome before one

can make any concrete spiritual progress at all!

Women have been buying into the "motherhood is power" thing pushed on them for

centuries and where has it gotten them, if it is so "powerful"? Women are mostly

treated like trash in "Mother" India, despite all the Mother Goddess-worshiping

hype...female babies aborted by the thousands, so much so, that the population

ratio of men to women is seriously skewed, women burned to death in "dowry

murders", faithful wives infected with AIDS by selfish husbands who have no

respect for them or their children...the list goes on!

We have our problems here in the West, yes, but India is supposed to be a

"spiritually advanced" country, and we are beef-eating mlecchas! So it is time,

in my opinion, that women started thinking in different directions. Remember,

the truly powerful Goddesses are NOT pictured with children; they are referred

to as "WISDOM-Goddesses", something to keep in mind!

Dear Sephire, Frankly I dont know what you are rampling about. I read

only the first 5 lines, and I just knew it shows you are not aware of

what we are talking about. What to do! I shall let you be in your own

world. Here is something from the Lalitopakhyana – V.

Lalitopakhyana – V

187

I. Then, Lalita Parameshwari will manifest.

J. She will be seated in a chariot called Chakra Raja Ratha.

K. She will create Parabrahma in the name of Kameshwara and will have

Him as Her consort.

L. This couple will re-create the entire universe, which will turn

out to be more beautiful than the previous creation.

M. Lalita Parameshwari will bring Manmatha back to life.

192. After some time, Maha Shambhunatha, accompanied by Parashakti

started chanting the Lalita Maha Mantra and entered the Universe in

the form of the sevenlayered Vayu (air).

193. Parashakti assumed the form of His Kriya Shakti (energy of

action).

204. The Lalita Parameshwari so manifested, created a male form from

within Herself. His name was Kameshwara.

210. She extended Herself in both male and female forms and continued

the process of creation.

A. From the left eye, which was of the nature of Soma (moon) came

Brahma and Lakshmi Devi.

B. From the right eye, which was of the nature of Soorya (sun) came

Vishnu and Parvati.

C. From the third eye, which was of the nature of Agni (fire), came

Rudra and Sarasvati.

D. Lakshmi & Vishnu, Shiva & Parvati and Brahma & Sarasvati became

couples.

E. Lalita Devi directed them to continue the process of Creation.

211. She herself continued to create certain things.

(i) From her long hair she created darkness.

(ii) From her eyes, she created the sun, the moon and the fire.

(iii) From the pendent hanging in front of her forehead came the stars

(iv) From the chain above her forehead came the nine planets.

(v) From the eyebrows, she created the penal code.

(vi) From her breath, she created the Vedas.

(vii) From her speech, she created poetry and plays.

(viii) From her chin she created the Vedangas.

(ix) From the three lines in her neck, she created various Shaastras.

(x) From her breasts, she created mountains.

(xi) From her mind, she created the power of bliss.

(xii) From her fingernails, she created the 10 incarnations of Vishnu.

(xiii) From her palms, she created the Sandhyas.

(xiv) She created other things as narrated in the Purusha Sookta.

(xv) From her heart, she created Baalaa Devi.

(xvi) From her intellect, she created Shyamala Devi.

(xvii) From her ego, she created Vaaraahi Devi.

(xviii) From her smile, she created Vighneshwara.

(xix) From the Ankusha (a special hook), she created Sampatkaree Devi.

(xx) Form the noose, she created Ashwaa Roodha Devi.

(xxi) From her cheeks, she created Nakuleshvari Devi.

(xxii) From her Kundalini Shakti, she created Gayatri.

(xxiii) From the eight wheels of the Chakra Raja chariot, she created

8 Devatas.

(xxiv) In the 9th landing, in the Bindu Peetha, she herself was

seated.

(xxv) Afterwards, she created the Devatas who would protect the

Chakra Raja chariot.

Nora,

It shows that you do not know much about shakti sadhana except only at

a very gross level.

If one takes away the senses, where is devi and deva, these are only

in the realms of your sensory activity and the various things which

the mind makes out of it. The spiritual realm begins when you are able

to withdraw from these.

this is the scriptural basis for the issue.

Hi Lilith:

I read a book, possibly The Chalice & The Blade, but maybe some

other book I can't recall the name of just now, that discussed the

gender bias of science in typing sperm as "active" and egg

as "passive," and applying those concepts broadly as male and

female, initiator and receptor, etc. The writer pointed out that the

egg, and all the female processes in reproduction, are active, but

the language used in describing the processes emphasize the activity

of the sperm, not the activity of the female body secretions and

egg. The vaginal pathway is a veritable obstacle course with warrior

secretions killing the unworthy sperm every step of the way, and the

egg, also, is active; it is not just sitting there awaiting

penetration. It's just cultural misperception that continues to

portray male and female in the typical roles you describe. And it's

that constant cultural BS that we take in and regurgitate that

causes those roles to continue as they do, with both

genders "falling back" on those traditions, IMHO.

The writing I'm talking about above was not emphasizing the

usual "motherhood as power" thing, just that the way male and female

processes are portrayed contains so much cultural baggage, and that

science, supposedly objective, is anything but due to the unexamined

biases held by scientists - not the group as a whole, necessarily,

but individuals who work in science.

I don't really see the reproductive process itself as maya, but all

the gender bias surrounding it, and our lives, I do see as maya.

It's so limiting, and we are capable of so much more! Imagine

letting go of all that, and moving beyond - wonderful!!!!
