Thus says the Brah Pr. "Then Devi Lalita looking again at the face of her Lord, smiled, and from the rays of that smile a certain god arose, having the head of an elephant with ichor flowing from the temples" [Lalita Sahasranama. Bhaskararaya's commentary. Translated into English by R.Ananthakrishna Sastry] Now where did it says about coming from the third eye : that is from my guru , when he gave me the Maha Ganapathi Mantra and he explain to me how this mantra comes about, the story behind it and the visualisation. Accordingly he said, it is the third eye.

Guest guest
There is a reference that when the Shaktisenas became listless Lalita was angry and in her anger the eyebrows knitted together and she looked at Kameswara and from the point of knitting of eyebrows - the third eye - arose maha Ganapati. Probably that was what was being referred to.
