Jammu, INDIA (Feb. 20, 2005): The Yatra to the Mata Vaishnodevi

Shrine Yatra resumes today after a day and nearly 7000 pilgrims were

allowed to move for the shrine located in Trikut hills of Udhampur

district.

The yatra was suspended on Saturday after avalanches hit and blocked

the track near Manokamna Bhawan leading to the cave of Mata's

temple.

According to the Police, the track was opened around 6 AM in the

morning. The sun was shining bright and the weather had improved

now.

Rohit Kansal, additional Chief Executive Officer of the shrine board

informed that all pilgrims were safe and no loss of life or damage

took place in the incident.

Board had arranged a 700-bed hostel to keep stranded pilgrims in

good health and spirit free of cost.

The shrine witnesses nearly 4,000 to 5,000 pilgrims daily despite

the snow and heavy rains and over 80,000 devotees have paid

obeisance at the shrine so far this year.

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine is one of the oldest shrines of India,

located at a height of 5300 feet on the holy Trikuta Hills of the

Shivalik Hill Range. The Bhawan, the Sacred Sanctum of Shri Mata

Vaishno Devi Ji is linked by a 13 Kms long track to the Base Camp

Katra which is 50 kms away from Jammu by road.

The Goddess Vaishno Devi's abode is in 100 feet long cave with a

narrow opening. The 100 feet cave is very narrow with an average

height of 5.5 feet only and has ankle deep water. The pilgrims are

allowed in batches through the cave. (ANI)
