Guest guest
nirgunA : without quality The opinion of the Tarka school is rejected here. The Sruti [sve. Up. VI. 11] says, "The Witness, the thinker, pure, and without qualities." As the qualities are connected with the body [matter] they are absent from what belongs to spirit [cit]. This is explained in the Matsya and Padma Prs. where NArada says to HimavAn:" As I have said, Devi is devoid of attributes, listen well, to the explanation of the meaning of this saying : attributes [laksana] are the marks of Devas, and qualities [guna] depend upon body; this Devi is without qualities and cannot be distinguished by attributes."
