Guest guest
Len, The recital of mahAgaNapati sahasranAma does not require any initiation. http://sanskrit.gde.to/doc_ganesha/ganesha1000.itx http://sanskrit.gde.to/all_pdf/ganesha1000.pdf Download Itrans software if you would like the same in roman script. http://www.omkarananda-ashram.org/Sanskrit/Itranslt.html In the phala shruti of this sahasranAma mahAgaNapati Himself says "mUla mantrAdapi stotramidaM priyataraM mama.", meaning this mahAgaNapati sahasranAma stotra is more dearer to Him than the mUla mantra itself. If you like you may want to recite this. The importance of this stotra can be understood by the fact that the great shrIvidyA teacher and an expert in mantra shAstra, Bhaskararaya, along with Lalita Sahasranama chose to comment on this stotra. The commentary on this stotra is called khadyota vyAkhyA(I can be corrected here if this vyAkhya pertains to some other) or something similar. A picture of Heramba Ganapati or Mahaganapati should be enough. One doesnt necessarily need to buy an expensive vigraha to propitiate the Gods. Well, if collecting these is a hobby, it would be your personal matter and I have nothing to say. http://xoomer.virgilio.it/pagemma/ganapati.JPG The word heramba occurs in this stotra a couple of times as also the word ucchiShTa ganesha. If you chose to recite this, you may want to recite this stotra early in the morning i.e during Brahmi muhurta(the phala shruti insists this). Reciting this stotra *before sunrise* is *very important* and recite it along with the phala shruti. If you can, you may want to try(not required) reciting this while in padmAsana. It will be good if it is followed or preceeded by *daily mantra japa* of whatever mantra one has. Atleast you may want to make sure that you start the recital when it is still dark(i.e no sunlight) in the morning. This is one of the best sahasranAma among those scores of devata sahasranAmA-s. One need not be discouraged by the length of this sahasranAma. It will be worth it. Daily mantra japa is important. No effort - no progress. Hope that helps, Regards, sa.
