Guest guest
93 Very essential note. We have to take into account that visualisation here means not "visual imagining" but sankalpa, intention. Thus, bhAvanA means first of all something like contemplative intention. For instance, bhavana as dhyana of certain deity means avahana, invocation. Bhavana of shakti-tattva in kula-yaga means intention towards aropana. And likewise. Nigraha and anugraha mean severity and grace, or symbolically destruction and creation. As we can see from Scripture, God created everything by mere saying, Word. That was bhavana. In fact bhavana is the root of all 5 shaktis of the Lord. Thus through bhavana upasaka can reach identity of Shiva, shivatva. In its innermost effect bhavana is aropana... Bhavana implies also certain feeling - bhAva means "feeling" and "love". It can be said that bhavana is that Will, which is joined with Love, as Liber AL says: "Love is the law, love under will". If taken as only intellectual effort, bhavana will be of no use. Necessarily it has to be with feeling. As Kularnava states, "only Love saves". Bhavana is "loving under Will". When upasaka is totally submerged in bhavana, he can achieve anything he needs. As Will is the key to every magick operation. Mantra is articulation of Will that is behind it. If one is master in bhavana, mantra is not needed anymore. His breath itself is mantra... "For pure will, unassuaged of purpose, delivered from the lust of result, is every way perfect" (Liber AL 1.44). Guest guest
93 >"Bhavana of shakti-tattva in kula-yaga means intention >towards aropana". >Which means what? What is bhavana was explained earlier. Then, Shakti-tattva is "nature" or "essence" of shakti; it is the true nature of the woman. Kula-yaga, "sacrifice of Kula", is the central ritual of kaula-tantrism, also known as 5M. More specifically kula-yaga defines maithuna. As Gandharva-tantra says, "kulashAstraM kulAchAraH kAmayAgamanuttamam" (34.106a). Aropana (AropaNa, Aropa) means identification with Deity through prayer and love, resulting in apotheosis of erotic relationships. It is essentially based on shringara-rasa and signifies the transformation of kama into prema. Aropana is the true metanoia of Christianity or paravritti of Buddhism. Thus, given above statement means that "bhavana of the true nature of woman as Shakti manifested, in the context of ritual worship of Kula, is the intention to transform relationships with her into pure Divine Love, shuddha-prema" – which is followed by samavesha, merging in the Ultimate. Love is the law, love under will. A. , Max Dashu <maxdashu@l...> wrote:
Guest guest
Sorry, I should have been more specific; just wondered what is aropana. Thanks for the explanation, and the interesting post. Guest guest
93 It is i am sorry. I thought at first that U were asking abt aropa only, but then decided it's anyway easier to write in whole at once. >From online dictionary we get the following: [Entry Aropa Meaning m. imposing (as a burden) , burdening with , charging with ; placing in or on ; assigning or attributing to ; superimposition] [Entry AropaNa Meaning n. causing to mount or ascend Katha1s. ; raising up , elevating Katha1s. ; the act of placing or fixing in or on R. Ragh. Kum. ; the stringing of a bow R. ; assigning , attribution , imposition , substitution Sa1h. ; planting L. ; trusting , delivering L.] It seems that the term is rather technical - ordinary meanings are not exact to the point. However i hope the idea is clear enough... Best regards. Love is the law, love under will.
