Guest guest
No, she is not just a nice lady giving hugs. She is also a nice lady raising huge sums of money, which she applies towards building orphanages, homes for battered women, hospitals, soup kitchens, and other charitable organizations. While giving the hugs, she manages to give informative lectures on Hinduism, initiate people into use of mantra, teach meditation, give personal guidance, perform pujas, and otherwise inspire people. That some people percieve her as performing "siddhis" is not all that important. (For what it's worth, I was profoundly depressed one summer evening when I went for Ammachi's darshan. When she hugs me, she usually whispers something in my ear, a bija mantra or a God name. I remember thinking, "I wonder what God name she'll whisper to me" as I knelt down for my darshan. She whispered, "Le-nord, Le-nord, Le-nord..." That didn't sound like Sanskrit! She repeated, "Le-nord, Le-nord, Le-nord..." My birth name, of course, is Leonard. I was not wearing a name tag. There is no way she could logically remember or know my name from among millions of devotees she sees every year. I arose, light-headed, and told one of the seva-assistants, "Amma just called me by my name." The assistant just shrugged, "What Mother doesn't know her children's names?" Does "Le-nord" mean something in Sanskrit?) Anyway, I'm not Ammachi's devotee because she performs siddhis, or even because she's generous with her charities. I'm her devotee because she shows me the way to God. -- Len/ Kalipadma --- jodyrrr <jodyrrr wrote: > > , "Mary Ann" > <buttercookie61> wrote: > > > > I think you are making a mistake by calling what I > was referring to > > as "magic" or "special powers."
