And the Laksmitantra of the PAncarAtra says, "In that place I am going to kill gre at daitya named DurgAma, hence my name shall be DurgA." This is the goddess who resides in the place called Sannati on the bank of the river, Bhimarathi. The word durga is explined n the Devi. Pr,;" Indra and other devas were delivered from mental and physical fear, in difficulty and in battle, hence [Devi] is called Durga [ie deliverer].' This Devi, solicited by king Subahu, who begged boon of her, established herself under this name at Benares. This story also occurs in the Devi Bhg. Pr. ACcording to this a nine yer old girl is also called DurgA BhAskararAya's Commentary Translated into English by R.
