According to the Mailara Tr. "MahAla is the name of a daita whom she destroyed [sya and ksapa to kill], hence she is called MahAlasA and MahAlaksmih, residing on the shore of the western sea at the foot of the Sahya mountain." The Siva Pr. concerning Siva says, "The beautiful, azure [ SyAma ], all-fascinating, Supreme Sakti seated on the lap of Siva is called MahAlaksmih." Tha AusyasUkta says, "Sri Laksmih.." Laksmih is called Parvati. The MArk. Pr. also says, "MahAlaksmih is the origin of everything manifested as the three gunas." Again according to Dhaumya {smrti] a girl of thirteen years of age is called MahAlaksmih. BhAskararAya's Commentary Translated into English by R.
