mahApAtakanAsini : Destroying great sins.

 

The BrahmAnda Pr. says, "The higehest expiation of all sin weather

committed knowlingly or unknowingly is brought about by the

remembrance of the feet of the supreme Sakti."

 

The Brahmottra-khanda also says, "Briefly, I will tell you in half a

verse that the worship of Siva destroys the crime of even a hundred

murders [lit. of BrAhmanas]"; according to the Artharatnavali, "the

great sins, " the killing of heroes. In the SaubhAgya-ratnAkara and

other works, in the chapter on expiation the rules for repeating the

PaNcadasi-mantra according to the crime are explained.
